Respiro

Our Story

The Events That Led to Respiro and the CO/PRO®

Compared to all the proactive solutions available today for stopping fires and smoke (fire extinguishers, sprinkler systems, fire blankets... and more), today's approach to protection from CO seems so antiquated. It's reactive. We wanted a proactive solution that could monitor CO producing equipment and stop the generation of CO at the source before CO spread throughout the house - which usually occurs in the middle of the night.  That's why we developed the CO/PRO.

How it Began

Everyone involved with Respiro had a journey and experience that led them to the same conclusion - with all the advances in technology and smart homes, there must be a better way to protect people from carbon monoxide-related sicknesses, poisonings, and death.

For the original inventor, it was a furnace that failed in an apartment complex which caused carbon monoxide to be distributed through the ventilation system to all the families in the building. For my father-in-law, it was during a maintenance check on his 20-year-old furnace when the technician discovered that a cracked heat exchanger was releasing low levels of carbon monoxide, lower than where a CO detector will alarm, into his home. For me, it was when I lost hot water in my home only to discover that an animal got into the exhaust pipe on the roof, died from CO poisoning, and prevented the water heater's carbon monoxide exhaust gasses from being carried outside the house through the exhaust pipe.  It was also when I called my dad, who was hard of hearing, and heard his detector's alarm through the phone - but he couldn't hear it.

Why Now

As workers are shifting their physical workplace from the company office to the home office, there now exists a greater need to ensure the safety and quality of the air inside the home because there's more time being spent in the home and less time being spent away from the home.
